white noise

Updated: July 10, 2018 by Lisa League

White noise is a form of sound masking that specifically uses natural (e.g. birds’ twittering) or artificial (e.g. noise) sounds in order to blanket other sounds. This method can be used, for example, to drown out information-containing sounds if the other background noise is too weak to mask them.
