ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental membership organization and the world's largest developer of voluntary International Standards.
For example, ISO 14000 Environmental management relates to product standards and labeling as they relate to the environment. For drafting, there are standard sheet sizes based upon the metric system. There are ergonomics standards used by manufacturers of office furniture. You can view some of the most popular standards here.
The key thing to remember is that it is a standards writing organization, not a regulatory organization. Adherence to any ISO standards is voluntary.
