The NCIDQ Exam tests your knowledge by exploring each piece in detail
And –tests your understanding of each piece.
Good taste and your ability to select finishes, fabrics, furniture, flooring and lighting, etc… is critical, yet it is only one piece of the design puzzle.
Designers must understand properties and functional aspects of every selection–
How does this wall finish or flooring help control sound transmission?
Does it hold up for its intended use?
Does it meet the functional, physiological and aesthetic goals for the project?
This means you have to understand the many different types of products and know how to evaluate each product.
Another big part of the design puzzle is the business side. This includes:
- ethics and business practices
- contracts
- fees
- legal issues
- designer and client responsibilities
- business structure and development
- trade sources
- how to conduct yourself in a way that is ethically responsible to the client, sub-contractors, suppliers, public etc…
